Functional Skills

  • computing_studentsYou are entitled to continue developing your English, maths and ICT skills through Functional Skills.

  • If you develop your skills in English, mathematics and Information Communication Technology you are more likely to achieve your main qualification and be successful when you progress to the next level of course or into employment.

  • You will receive more information about how Functional Skills are managed on your course at your induction.

  • All 16-18 full-time learners and some part-time learners will work towards qualification in Functional Skills. You may have separate lessons for Functional Skills or they may be integrated into your main programme of study.

  • Each of the Functional Skills (Functional English, Functional Mathematics and Functional ICT) is based around problem solving. The assessment will involve tasks undertaken under test conditions at the end of the programme.

  • You can use your Functional Skills qualifications in an application form for a job, further training or a Higher Education course.
