Respect
We are committed to providing a caring, friendly, and safe environment for all members of the college community. Bullying or harassment of any kind is unacceptable. This includes feeling 'picked on', for instance if someone often behaves towards you in a way you find insulting, upsetting, or threatening.
If this occurs, you should be able to discuss the problem and know that it will be dealt with promptly and effectively. Equally, if you see someone else being bullied, reporting this will help us to maintain a relaxed and secure atmosphere for all. You may begin by talking to your friends, parents, tutor or counsellor: often, sorting things out informally is most effective. If this isn't enough, and/or you feel you need some more help, then you need to report the incident to one of the PPD coaches.
We will try to offer support to the 'bully' as well as to the person being bullied (people who bully usually have their own problems). However, bullying is taken very seriously, and if not satisfactorily resolved it may result in disciplinary action.
If you do not wish to refer an issue of bullying or harrassment but you do require support, The College Counselling Service can help. Counselling offers impartial and confidential support. Counsellors aim to enable students to discuss issues and worries and to explore options and strategies for managing dififcult situations, in a supportive and private environment.
