ToyotaThe College's major partnership with Toyota GB has enabled the construction of the Highfields Automotive & Engineering Centre, located at Nottingham's Science Park. This landmark building will become a centre of excellence in automotive training, providing a national centre for Toyota's Apprenticeship Academy as well as offering a range of courses for up to 600 Castle College students. The £14 million project is part funded by the Learning and Skills Council Nottinghamshire and East Midlands Development Agency East, with financial support from Nottingham City Council.
The Centre of Excellence will help to fill a sector skills gap identified by Toyota, Castle College and the project partners, all of whom recognised the importance of the scheme in helping to further develop the region's manufacturing and engineering sector base. The training offered at the centre will cater for school and further education students from the Greater Nottingham area wanting to prepare for a career in the automotive industry. Pre-16 students will study for motor vehicle maintenance and repair qualifications on a day release basis from school, and school leavers will be able to continue their education in automotive engineering.
